The most direct, wheelchair-accessible route to the Institute for Research on Women, Gender, and Sexuality office and event space is through the Amsterdam Avenue entrance to Schermerhorn Extension, located just west of 119th Street. The security guard at the booth near this entrance should have a key to the lift. However, it is advisable to contact Columbia University security in advance of your visit and let them know you will need access. Upon entering the building, you will need to take the elevator to the 7th Floor, where the IRWGS offices are located.
Please visit the Office of Disability Services web site for more information regarding campus accessibility.
Alternate routes from 119th Street and Amsterdam Avenues:
If the wheelchair lift is not working, there are several other routes by which you may access Schermerhorn Hall from the vicinity of 119th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Two of these routes are through the Engineering Terrace parking garage and a third uses the Service Building ramp near the mailroom. (The Service Building ramp, however, is not intended for wheelchairs and is too steep for someone in a manual chair.) Please ask the security guard to direct you to one of these routes.
