The Herbert H. Lehman Center for American History

The Herbert H. Lehman Center for American History is dedicated to supporting and enhancing the study and teaching of American history at Columbia University. It places special emphasis on political history, the history of New York City and State, human rights history, and comparative and interdisciplinary work. The Center also promotes the study of the accomplishments of Herbert H. Lehman, the former governor of and senator from New York. The Center is connected to the Rare Book and Manuscript Library (RBML) at Columbia University, which also supports the Lehman Archives. The Lehman Center sponsors seminars, informal lectures, and annual conferences; provides meeting spaces for special activities; and cosponsors events with Centers, Institutes, and departments at Columbia . Activities at the Center are open to the entire Columbia community and to others. Most activities require advance registration or rsvp.
